I was just kind of curious what kind of groups 3 round bursts (M16A2) typical result in.

I know it'll vary a lot depending on shooting position, etc. - but as a general rule, what size of groups does it result in? Are they in a vertical string?

They reach the target CLOSE  to the same time!

Verticle stringing of 3rd burst is usually due to muzzle flip or rise on the part of the shooter.  Like most shooting, practice makes perfect. It takes range time and dicipline to consistently control the string of 3.  Full auto even more.

Tends to go high and rigiht for me. In a poor stance the first shot will be the only one to hit from as little as five meters. If you do it right you could keep them all on a man past 25 meters. This from an M4.

Exactly. I used to work at Scottsdale Gun Club and watching people shoot all day long...not really a bad job.

Tendency for most if not all shooter is a left to right diagonal grouping that is rising.

Hence, the reason Kalashnikov muzzle brakes direct the gas high and right to attempt to conteract this
