Hey everyone, I currently have a RRA entry tactical model w/ an EOtech sight. Very pleased w/ this gun, but I would like to keep it as a home defense weapon and get another for past 200yard range to use in team sniper competitions and general long range practice. I'm assuming it is between the National Match, the Varmit A4, and the Predator Pursuit, but I don't know which whould be better for long range shooting. Probably would be looking at the 20" barrel. thanks for any opinions. |
| I just got a RRA Varmint EOP in 18". All I can say is WOW! This thing is incredibly accurate and shoots tiny groups at 100. RRA guarantees 1 MOA and mine is shooting closer to 1/2" at 100 with Hunter shack 55 gr. ammo) While I havnt shot it all that much (75 rounds or so), and it my first black rifle variant I would highly recommend it. |

IMHO... Unless you want to carry a truck axle, it isn't absolutely necessary that you buy a 20" bull barrel upper unless you're shooting out around 600 yards. How far past 200 do you want to go? For example, I have a 16" RRA Middie. It is certainly accurate enough to go at least 400 yards without breaking a sweat. According to my chronograph on Saturday, Winchester Q3131 averaged 3130 fps, so I'm losing maybe 100 fps compared to a 20" barrel. I'm going to put a good scope on it and go head-to-head with the 20" bulls this summer. The only differences in my opinion are a few clicks and maybe the ability shoot bullets heavier than 69 grain SMK's. If I were looking (and I am), I'd look at that nearby thread about White Oak Armament's 18" Special Purpose Rifle (SPR) match barrel. Shorter, lighter, handier and it gives nothing up on accuracy. Of course, with one of those 20" bull barrels, you can always pry out tree stumps if you ain't shooting it! |
You get to shoot on Viale whenever you want? Bastard. |
The only thing that needs to be particular on the lower is a 4.5 lb. trigger and a standard pistol grip and stock. Get a WOP upper, John does them right. |

FWIW, I have been very happy with my NM A4. With a 3x9 bushnell I was able to shoot pretty consistant 3/4" gtoups with 77gr black hills. 68/69 grain bullets also did very well, but I only shot it on paper twice - I'm sure that with more trigger time this will drop significantly. -K |
+1 I haven't put as many rounds as I'd like through mine but I love the Predator Pursuit. I got the aluminum handguard and bead blasted barrel w/ a Bushnell 3200 10x40 mil-dot scope. |
A friend and I shot his RRA Predator Pursuit last weekend. With a cheapy 3x9 scope and Black Hills 55gr ammo it was shooting 3/4" groups at 100yds. Very nice rifle and I really liked the NM trigger. In fact, later that day I installed a RRA NM trigger in my latest build but haven't shot it yet. |
