I have a 10.5" SBR and am wondering if the vortex will be more effective than the A2 flas hider I currently have on it.

Cool, that 's what I was hoping. One more thing does it have to be timed?

Shouldn't - only related feature is that is self-tightens

::ETA - I read stupid::

It doesn't need to be timed, tightened, given a washer, shimmed... none of that.
And it's one of the best, if not the best, flash suppressor out there right now.

In my opinion, personal and professional, the only way you can deaden flash better is with a good sound suppressor.

Wont you still shoot out some Flash with a Vortex and a 10.5 barrel

I rather stick with Bird Cage and keep the Length as is

when shooting Prone you will kick up dust with a vortex

A closed Bottom phantom will do good hideing Flash
and wont kick up sand/ Dust

A VOICE OF REASON

I honestly don't know that many people that go prone with a 10.5" barrel.

The Vortex is excellent.  I've been switching over to the FSC556 because it does an OUTSTANDING job of reducing muzzle climb while still keeping flash out of the shooter's eyes, but if I run a flash hider it is a Vortex.

FMJ, I luv ya man, but c'mon bro!  10.5 prone?  If you have to shoot it prone, I think they know where you are...

ETA:  Vortex helps, but there will still be flash out of a 10.5.  I'm not sure you wouldn't be better off sacrificing flash and getting a Noveske KX3.  The Vortex does help with the light from flash, but the KX3 will direct the blast away from you much better, and that may be a more practical feature.  Plus it'll scare the shit out of people watching!

If you're that concerned about it, you probably need a suppressor.
