I have purchased my first AR, it is a post ban Bushmaster A2 Hbar Carbine (16") it is a 1 n 7 twist which should help with heavier bullets. This is going to be a plinker and a SD weapon if TSHTF. Here is a pic of it

As you can see it has the plain hand guard, would y'all recomend a hand guard with rails? What about a scope? It would seem to me that if the scope is mounted way on top of the handle the gun could only be sighted in for a specific range, even more so than the average rifle. The 223 is a fairly flat shooter, but itain't that flat is it? I mean if I sight it in for 100 yards will it still be on the paper at 150 yards?
I for sure need more mags, and there are so many available it is mind boggling. What is a good mag that is reliable without having to tweak it that doesn't cost $30 each?
Some of the things I would like to get right away for it is
A case
4-6 magazines
Hogue Rear grip
A Sling
Scope
What else would y'all recommend for this rifle and any recommendations on the items above would be greatly appreciated. What do think of a muzzle break? Do they really work that well? Can I have this barrel threaded, because the ones that are held on with set screws look bad IMHO.
I will also start reloading for 223, so any favorite loads you would like to share would also be great.
Thanks for all your help.

If you don't mind, what did you give for that rifle?  I'm talking to a guy about trading one of my rifles + some cash for one just like it. The only differnece is that the one I'm hoping to get has flat top upper reciever.  He keeps telling me he's got 800 in it but I keep pressing for what he'd TAKE for it and I need a good base line price to offer.

Welcome, as far as handguards go thier are many on the market, do you want free float or drop in. some good drop ins are MI and YHM fairly in expensive and work well.
As far as scoping your rifle, your bullet should be on paper at 150 yds if sighted in at 100 yds., check out the ammo oracle for a .223 ballisitics chart. If you want good quality magazines I would suggest USGI mags, they can be easily had for $10-$15 each.

Thanks for the warm welcome and good advice. I can't believe how many options there are for these rifles. I feel like a kid at Toys R Us for the first time!!!!
How are the Magpul mags in the Bushy?
I also want to start reloading, is there a difference between 5.56 dies and 223, what about the brass?
Thanks for the help.
