Anyone think the gas buster charge handle does anything?  I was bored and made my own the other day.

yes and it doesn't fall apart after a few uses.

honestly if it's not surpressed it really makes no difference <imho>

with my can installed the difference is enormous.

That's all it is?

Wow...I guess I'll be converting mine over right away.  My can is going to be ordered within a week.

no thats not all it is.

the GS is beefier in several areas and also SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than a regular CH.

that will work fine for a short time though. if you use a can i'd HIGHLY reccomend the GB.

How does the Gas Buster actually work? And how did you engineer that temporary fix? I've been getting so much gas in my face I started wearing snowboarding goggles to keep my eyes from watering he

THe GB also diverts some blowback from under the charging handle and sends it out on the Right  side just in front  of the  charging handle. I think there may be more blowback under the charging handle than over it.

There is significant difference on the bottom of the gb charging handle.  I don't think just modding the top of an oem handle well do much.

Here is a mod I just did for a 9mm upper I have. I just cut a slot under the charging handle similar to a real GB. The real GB is on the Left.

If your a lefty then the gb will direct teh gasses into your face.
food for thought.

There is no need to route the gas to the left as the receiver is well vented.

This modification is another modification from the service rifle crowd.  Because of the proximity of the charging handle to the eyes, gas has caused problems especially in the rapids.

I did the same thing, have shot 1000s of rounds with it, and it works great. As for the additional material on the GB, it doesn't do anything that I see.
My Charging handle is 4140 steel, so the GB isnt even as strong as that is, and the silicone bead seals the gas away from me completely as far as me eye and nose tell me.

Could you provide some details please.

What "brand" is it ?

Where did you purchase it ?

Cost (if you don't mind) ?

What "brand" is it ?  Not sure, package was a plastic bag that said "4140 Steel Charging Handle" on the top.

Where did you purchase it ?  Local Shop (Bullseye - Wichita KS, phone# 316-686-7264)

Cost (if you don't mind) ? about $60.00

Very cool.  Thanks.

Also, can you offer any thoughts on how well you like it ...

In other words, after using it for whatever period of time now, do you feel that it's a significant / substantial improvement over a standard CH - or maybe only marginally so ?

Is it the kind of item that you now consider a "must have" for all of your rifles?

Thanks again.  (And hopefully not a hijack.)

Hijack? I think it is revelant to to the OP's subject....

The exterior machine work is smoother than the standard Colt CH, so it doesn't wear the rear-inside of the upper receiver as much. It won't break if I torque it to the side in a rushed situation like I've heard can happen to the aluminum CHs. I use one on my Colt M4 (6400) that I've been upgrading with the heaviest duty parts I can find, but my range toys still have the standard handles (with the silicone beads) & I have a few extra CHs for the event one actually breaks, but that hasn't happened yet..

I see it as a bit of extra insurance on a weapon that I don't want to fail. However, it is mainly for making what I'm calling my "Bullet Proof" build.

I bought a PRI GB charging handle and like it quite a bit. I do not shoot with a can, but dirty ammo still stings the eyes, hence I got the GB. I like the latch as well. IMHO it is 1/2 CDI and 1/2 functional in my case.

Is it really that bad for lefties? I thought it directed the gas to the right, not to the right and up/back.

The thing I like most about the Gas Buster is when charging a weapon with one hand with the fore finger/thumb pinch and pull method, the Gas Buster is wider than a normal charging handle and the spoiler that comes down off the charging handle gives much more area for your thumb to grab.  So its wider AND taller there.  That combined with the latch makes a world of difference over the standard handle and is still much better than the standard handle with the PRI latch.

It helps with CLP and gas too the eye too but since I run a piston upper and a low back pressure silencer these features go unused on my rifle.
