I've been lurking here for a while and I now have a questions.  I have wanted to build my own Ar-15 from a parts kit and stripped lower receiver for over a year and I now have enough cash to do that.  The only problem I've ran into is that my local gun shop has new AR-15's for $699.00.  These are Vulcan's.  I have never heard or seen anything about them.  They are basic A2's Nothing really fancy just a basic rifle but it is exactly what I was wanting to build.  I would still like to build my own but that price is really hard to pass up.  I can probably save only about $100.00 building my own over the Vulcan.

So here are my questions, does anybody know anything about the Vulcan AR-15's?

Are the good, ok, or don't ever think about buying another one, kind of AR's?

If I build my own I am going to use a DPMS stripped receiver and a parts kit from BlackThorne Products.

My need for AR's is going to civilian in nature.  Plinking and hunting and home defense if needed. Do I need to get the Chromed Line Barrel and chamber? Or will the plain steel barrel be fine for my applications?

Thanks everyone

Vulcan= BAD.

If you are on a budget, the EE has some good deals, or try any of the site vendors.

Check out the bargain bin at CMMG. From what I hear they are well worth the money. I wish I had found out about it before I made a purchase on another at a show. IF they still have some when I have an extra $570.00 I will be buying one.

Yes, They used to be crap and have a very bad reputation.  They break.

Third choice, don't ever think about buying one.

As far as I know DPMS is OK but liked mentioned above go to the equipment exchange here.  I'm kind of partial to RRA.  Chromed lined barrel is the standard for reliability,  Stainless steel if you're after accuracy.  Plain steel is prone to rust if you don't keep it clean and dry.

If you were to see a list of reccomended manufacturers of AR15s the Vulcan would be dead last.  Better yet, it should not even be on any list that has the word "reccomended" in it.

Thank you for the quick responses.  This Vulcan is the first Ar-15 I have ever handled and went over in detail.  I'm glad to find this out before I made a costly mistake.

Looks like I'm back to building my own.
