I'm looking to pick up a 3-4 lowers in the near future (within a month or so).  I've been eyeballing the Double Stars on the EE for $95 shipped.  Any reason to go with another brand?  Recommendations?

double star are fine...you pay more you pay for a name and POSSIBLY <and I stress the possibly part> a slightly nicer finish.  Billet looks like to me and the price is x2.  There is no advantage to billet, if you need the added strength of a billet lower then you've already f***ed the weapon all to h*** and it won't matter at that point.

You're about to have every brands fanboy come out and say that X brand is better than Y brand.

<censored my language a bit....i'm in a really bad mood because of my PC's being a PITA>

Not unless you want billet or you just don't like the rollmark

Recommendations?

I have CMMG, RRA and Spikes, they are all equal in quality, the Spikes being the Cheapest and RRA being most expensive.

I am about to pick up a few more lowers on my next trip to the states.  They will be CMMG.

Pick a rollmark you like or a price you like and buy them.

I have CMMG's, Noveske's, Mega's and RRA's. They are all great. The Megas are top shelf fit and finish. But so are CMMG and Noveske.

I've built on multiple brands of lowers without problems.  They are pretty much all the same.

I have  had great luck with my GTS lower. It is made by Stag for Denny and I would highly recommend it for a $20 more bucks.

+1

...and for $15 more you can get the NoDak A2 lower which is void of a logo and rt side semi/safe markings.  Also, I believe they are still made from a 7075 T6 forging unlike their 6061 retro lowers.

That tends to be the board in general.  People seem to forget that the receiver is just a shell to hold the FCG and mag.  Any in spec lower will work as well as any other.  If you are going for lowest cost, don't worry about a name or picture on the side.  If cost isn't the driving factor, look around and see what you like, there are lots of options out there.

Have there been any reports of DS lowers being out of spec?  I see RRA, DPMS, Stag, CMMG, and other lowers for just a little bit more, but if the DS lowers are made within the right specs, that's the route I'm going.

i have 2 that haven't had any issues....a lot of the CMMG bargain bin rifles are supposedly mostly DPMS and DS, no one has reported any issues with them
