I have 2 uppers with muzzle breaks perm. attached. The report from the barrels is incredibly loud. The first time i fired them i didn't have ear plugs in(big mistake). My ears rang for at least 2 days afterwards. My Winchester 30-30 is nowhere near this loud.
Would it be worth it to swap out the barrels for post-ban(no muzzle device) or bull barrels? I guess i should ask, is there a significant difference in the level of noise between barrels with muzzle breaks and those without?

Edit: I live in NY so flash hiders are out of the questionhinking.gif

A muzzle break will be louder as it directs the sound to the side. A barrel without any type of break, flash suppressor, etc will be loud...but not as loud as one with with a break.
I see that the DPMS Pardus uses a Integrated compensator, but I have not heard one fire so I can not comment on how loud it is..but from the way it looks it has to be quieter than a break and maybe quieter than a barrel with nothing at all.

Might ask around for those who own one and see what they have to say.

I have seen other manufacures that make Integrated compensator barrels for AR-15 but I can't seem to find any links at the moment. Seem to remember they were precision barrels.

Muzzle brakes are significantly louder.

Thanks for the responses and info. I've decided to go the route of swapping out the barrels altogether as removing a perm. attached muzzle device would be kinda risky regarding damaging the threads and the barrel itself. I'm no gunsmith so this seems to be my best bet.
