the rifle fires, it extracts the round, it inserts another round. pull the trigger, but the trigger doesnt pull. i drop the mag, jack the round out of the chamber. the primer is dented. retry. same thing fires first round no fire second round. then i opened the rifle. the hammer is forward but i wasnt able to pull the trigger. could you tell me what is happening and why? thanks much from this devil dog. oh yeah this is a new build. not by me so i am hoping its nothing major. also the barrel nut wasnt torqued to the spec i believe it is a 2 piece free float. would that cause it? thanks again

Primer is dented because the firing pin floats. Happens when the bolt carrier slams home.

If I'm reading this right, if the hammer doesn't lock back after the first round, perhaps the disconnector is the culprit

What kind of ammo are you using?

Check if the disconnector spring is even present...

the problem is resolved. the disconector spring was in fact not there. i had not pulled the lower apart yet. since it was a new build i had believed it to be complete. it was probably an oversight/mistake on the builders part. fortunately i have a few extra parts like the spring and gas rings. i just shot it, it works fine now....and i appreciate everyones input. thanks
