I recently had to send in my Bushmaster ar15 (.223) back to the factory for warranty service. It seems the edges on the feed ramp were sharp (not rounded). Bushmaster was great as far as customer service. They paid for the return shipping and the turn around time was quick. I get my Bushy back today!

How common are feed ramp problems? Round were jamming on the feed ramp edges, cutting grooves into the bullet.

It's my understanding that this is a defect, however, are there any other possible causes or precautions I can take to prevent this in the future?

(my second post!)

FWIW, and just so you'll know in the future, THURSDAY is M4 feed-ramp question day around AR15.com.....

As to your non-problem which you sent your rifle back for, most of us would have not wasted our time for simply shooting the rifle would have smoothed those edges you were so concerned about......

All rifle have sharp edges that wear as the round counts increase and all bullets get scratched entering the chamber.

Thanks for your informative reply. I'm new to the board.

What threw me off was the for the first 500-600 rounds I had no problems, then, seemingly out of the blue, I start having the feed ramp problem. So I wasn't sure what the cause was at first or how to correct it.

I am a novice shooter.

if I had purchased a factory rifle, had the same problem, I would have had them fix it as well!

Good call, you might as well have the pro's do the dirty work, its what they're there for

however I bought a bushmaster barrel and threw it into a VLTOR MUR (reciever had M4 ramps, barrel did NOT) ...so I know what can be done with a steady hand and a sharp rotary tool

Yeah, the factory gave me instructions on how to smooth the edges myself. however, seeing as I am a total novice, and it was still under warranty, I figured the best bet was to send it in for factory repair and service. I get it back today.

Welcome!

Nice to hear you had a smooth customer service experience.  Sounds like Bushmaster living up to their reputation.

I'd like to see some pics as well!

I'll take some new pics as soon as I get the upper back. Fed Ex was supposed to deliver it yesterday but I guess the driver was too blind to see my address. They're bringng it today. Good think that the aliens didn't come last night. What would I have done without my AR? LOL

This is porn star/model Trina Michaels shooting my Mand P 9mm, you can see my Bushy AR just behind her. I don't have too many pics of the AR but thought you'd really like this one.

Quick work with a round file probably would have had you back in business quickly.  I would have also sent a new firearm back for repair though.  New is new.

I never knew how much I loved my AR until I had to send it in for warranty repair. Actually, I've always loved my AR!

yeah a round file or dremel time.

I prefer the dremel.  It has cost me much money unfortunately.

LuckyBastard, you need a Team membership to show the good pics.  I'm not saying I would stare at or ogle such pics, but there is a place on this board that someone else told me about.  I'm just sayin'

Yes, a team membership is on my wish list. I'll be upgrading soon so that I can upload pics to the babe of the day forum. Looking forward to being a contributor, and believe me, I've got plenty of babes to contribute!

meh, when I tried to file down my ramps I went  out and bought a few different sized chain files (for sharpening chainsaws)...

the feed ramps were harder than the files, so it worked the other way around

$35 on expensive files which now have bad spots... it was a cruddy day.

now with a dremel though fifteen minutes later and I was happy!
