Long story short girlfriend got me a J&T upper for Christmas went and shot it today well look at the pics i look down the bore and its completely smooth. I know call J&T and they'll take care of it, since its Friday and i assume they wont be open again till Monday, ill email them tonight with my situation and wait for a reply. Really sucked having to drive an hour to shoot my brand new gun just to find out its defective. Always hear good things about J&T so I hope they take care of it. Shots were being taking at 25 yards, new barrel was breaking it in.

The barrel is stamped 1-10 was using factory winchester 55gr, yeah 1-10 is a weak twist but not week enough to make a 55gr bullet tumble at 25 yards...

Thats crazy, I think I can throw a bullet with less tumble.  I hope they take care of that without any questions.

Thats freakin funny though. Looks like someone pushed the round through the target sideways

They are good people, they will help you out.

I wasn’t laughing at all, but the funny part is on the way to the range I was talking to my dad about pics I saw on here couple days ago of targets with under stabilization and how they make bullet shaped wholes in the target and boom I make 3....

I’m sure J&T will take care of everything.

Damn dude...that looks like you shot 77gr OTMs through a 1/12 twist barrel....at 500yds!  It is funny in a odd way.  I hope all works out for ya...

Update: Receive my upper back from J&T yesterday with a new barrel and hand guard on them. Hade to pay shipping to them, door step to door step it took a week. Sent them a picture of the target and my 3 huge holes in them guess they didn’t find it too funny they sent it back in the box with my fixed upper... Kind of displeased with having to ship back the upper on my dime that was there fault to begin with, the guy on the phone was sorry this happened but if you look at it this way, I drove and hour and 20 minutes to the range paid 20 bucks to shoot (20 bucks because my girlfriend always goes and shoots her guns too) shoots loads of ammo but couldn’t shoot the one gun I wanted to. There mistake cost me more than just the price to ship it.

So I feel like I should have been given something for my trouble, like a 10% off coupon or even a letter in the box saying sorry, I was going to buy from them again but probably not after this, great company nice products but ill try Del-ton next time.

hock.gif They made you pay the shipping....on thier defective part???  Wow, that has to be the worst cust service I have ever heard of.

Paying shipping to the manufactuer for defective merchandise is normal.  It's actually rare for a manufacturer to front the $ for the shipping to them.  That's the main reason to buy locally.

That's kind of what I was thinking as well...

Atleast they got the upper back to you in a timely manner and it is not uncommon for customers to have to pay one way shipping with a warranty on any item to do with anything.

I just had a problem with my Stag Arms front sight base being out of spec.  Stag sent a return label for free and had my upper back to me in a week.  What I got back was a complete new barrel, FSB, gas tube, side sling mount and flash hider.  They also sent out an Otis cleaning kit along with the upper.   I guess some manufacturer still treat you right.  Sorry to hear about your issues with J&T

it is one thing to pay shipping to return a defective part, but if the company gets it back and realizes that they shipped a smoothbore barrel or some equally ridiculous defective part, for them to NOT reimburse two way shipping and try to do something else for the customer, well, that is just plain bad practice.

I would be bending over backwards to make it up to that customer.  Simple economics.  That one guy comes here, tells his story, and who knows how many of us will never consider that vendor in the future.  If instead the OP tells his story, and then updates us with a hey they sent me back a new upper, they gave me credit for the shipping, and they tossed in a (fill in the blank) too, we would all say good customer service, they are on my vendor list.

I've seen that with a brand new Remington 700. The barrel was perfectly smooth. I'm sure you'll be back up and running soon.

i agree completely.

they messed up on this one. i've never bought from them before, and the chances of me doing so in the future have taken a large drop because of the way they handled this situation.

Got pics' of the inside of the barrel missing the rifling by any chance? Seeing that would be highly entertaining. That said, hopefully they get you back up and running quickly.

I had a Magpul part break due to my error, and they paid shipping both ways.  An example of a company which does it right.

I may be foolish for not looking down the barrel but I didn’t check to make sure the Suzuki dealer put oil in my new bike before I rode it home, that upper just slipped past inspection some how and unlucky me had to pay for there mistake. That’s what it comes down to is me paying for there mistake, that’s what made me upset over the whole thing. If I make a mistake ill gladly pay for it, but not when it’s not my fault.

Even if I would have noticed it before I went to the range I still would have had to pay for shipping. O well a trip to the range really isn’t a waste any way you look at it. I still got to shoot all my other guns.

Magpul and Dillon have both done that for me.  Can't say enough about those two companies.

And people think we're foolish to always suggest Colt and LMT.  I know everyone can put out a lemon, but there's a reason you hear a lot more stories that start "my brand new, non-Colt/LMT XXXXXX took a dump, in my mouth".

You should have kept it and used .22lr shot shells out of it, haven't you always wanted a tiny shotgun?

VLTOR paid shipping both ways AND dissasembled the upper put a new MUR in put it back together and shipped it back to me all in a week.

VLTOR went farther than I expected to make it right.so I will buy again from them for the way they took care of this.
and any company that does things like that will get my money before a company that does not.
the mere effort to send a shipping tag to the customer is a big clue to the company's values and thoughts about the customers they serve.

When I returned a rifle to Bushmaster, they had UPS pick it up from my house, and shipped it back to me all at their expense.  And it wasn't even a "defect" on their part, it was more of a cosmetic issue I had with the rifle - and they still paid for shipping both ways.

Good customer service is what makes me come back to a company.  A lack of it will make me walk away from a company, not matter how good their product might be.

I have had great luck with J&T, but that is bullshit. I would be leary of doing business with them again after shipping you a smoothbore and you having to shell out a dime of your own money to get it fixed

Edit, I sent an IM to Jared, the rep here from J&T with the hopes this will be made right.

I think it's pretty good practice to check the bore of a brand new barrel or any barrel that YOU haven't shot before. What if the barrel wasn't just missing the rifling but had someting lodged in it. That would have been a lot worse than a keyholed target.

i've used lots of J&T items, i'm glad you got taken care of. it is BS that you had to pay, Stag paid both ways on an upper that would short stroke on every round i'm just glad they got you a replacement super fast, good luck

I bought some Burris rings from Midway USA and when I go to mount I find that one of the nuts to attach to the base is drilled off center.  So it wasnt getting a flat connection with the mount.

I called Burris and they sent me out a new set of rings FIRST, with a UPS call tag in the box so I could send the old ones back in the same box.

I couldnt have asked for more than that, they really took care of me.  Great CS.  Its one thing to require you to send something back for warranty work after its been used for a year or something like that, but when its brand new and defective, they really should take care of the shipping for you.

They aren't too bad if you're a beginner and want to learn about how poor staking (or lack there of) will cause your gas key to loosen to the point of turning your rifle into a short stroking single shot.

Just recieved an IM from J&T, the problem just seemed to be that because your girlfriend ordered it for you, her name didnt match yours and that is what caused the confusion.

Glad to hear you were taken care of, like I know J&T does business.
