I am building a varmint ar and was wondering about the 2 stage trigger? This my first ar and I have never used a 2 stage trigger so I'm a little hesitant about purchasing one. The trigger  in my rifle is adjustable from 1-4 lbs and is a single stage so why wouldn't I want that trigger in my ar remember I'm new to ar's so be patient with the silly questions

Your trigger would be fine in a varmint type rig.  A 2-stage is good for competition for two main reasons.  # 1 is there is the minimum 4.5 pound trigger requirement and a two stage allows a lighter left off on the 2d stage, the #2 reason is safety.  You have a lighter (feeling) trigger with lots of sear engagement that gets mostly removed by the first stage.
