hey guys,

have a dpms with a chrome moly barrel. I know they're not as good as chrome, but how do they rate and what is the typical life out of them(just a ball park in rounds count)?

BTW posted this in the uppers/barrels thread, didnt get too many answers from people who have chrome molys

Thanks in advance

Just clean it every so often and you'll be fine.

I must be the only guy that actually prefers them. shrug

Chrome lined barrels aren't necessarily better.  In fact, they can be detrimental to the accuracy.  They are easier to clean and last longer though.

.223's are not hard on barrels like some of the faster varmint calibers.so you're barrel should go several thousand rounds before accuracy starts to fade. A lot more barrels get ruined by improper cleaning methods and neglect than are worn out through normal use.

I have several diffiernt uppers and only 1 is chromed, the rest are stainless or chromoly. Accuracy is typically better out of the box with chromoly and if you arent shooting full auto or live in the jungle there is no benefit.

if i remember correctly a std CM bbl can get ~10K rnds (~1/2 of a CL bbl)--h/w, you should wait for someone else who remembers better than myself on the numbers...

of course, optimal bbl life can be obtained through less rapid firing and no innappropriate cleaning
