My first build was a 20" rifle. (went smoothly) Now I want to go with a 16" carbine.
Will several of you carbine folks out there tell me what works for you.
Buffer weights-Extractor upgrades-etc.

On my 16” light weight carbine I use:

- “H” buffer
- Crane o-ring and BCM extractor upgrade kit.

I use H buffers in my carbines too.  My extractor O rings just come from the auto parts store, though.  I never tried those fancy upgrades.

I like M4 feed ramps but you can get away without them.

CMMG 14.7" M4 'SOCOM A1' barrel
Colt M4 receivers & internals (MT6400C)
Samson MFRS-C (old style) Rails
EOTech & ARMS sighting system
Surefire light on a YHM offset rail - places it perfectly for my thumb
CMMG Butt Stock w/ Colt 'H' buffer.
Hogue pistol grip
CAA VFG

DIY is truly the best way to go. I couldn't imagine wanting much more than what I've built. The rollmark is what I want, the barrel looks right, and it shoots like a dream. I'm happy with the end result....so much I built another one....and another....and another....
You can make "what you want" for less than what an "almost what you want" complete carbine costs.

Build it mostly plain jane except as you feel you need it. That way, you can upgrade as YOU feel you need to and not waste too much on things you didnt really need or find useful. And yes, that was somewhat repetitive
