Hello, I recently bought my first AR-15. I would like to know how I can tell what kind of barrel it has. I know it is 16", but I wanted to know if it is a chrome barrel. It is an Olympic CAR-15 and I have read that you can shoot 5.56 but have to be careful with some rifles that are .223 specific. Does a chrome barrel handle a higher rate of fire per minute? Your Olympic barrel is going to be good to go with 5.56 ammo. Oly is not the highest quality brand over the years. But I think thier barrels are always good. As far as that goes anything Oly that is good - is good. The bad ones showed problems in short order. AS for chrome lined, I don't know, perhaps a call to them would be best since no one else has chimed in. I have bought thier reversable safeties (which are more nicely made then the standard ambi) I found thier phone guys to be very good. ..And welsome to the forum.
