| Looking for feedback from anyone who has one. Is it worth the scratch? I was thinking of buying the 14.5". |
|
The only beefs I have heard about them has been theoretical. Some folks do not like being stuck with only LMT as a source for off the shelf barrels. Some folk are concerned about the QD system not holding up. Have any folks who actually owned one bitched about these to me? Nope, but those are the most commonly heard ones. If you go with the CQB, you will have the option after SHOT to get into a piston coversion as well. |
| I have had an MRP since the first year they came out. Owning it has gotten better and better every year. With the availability of 5.56 barrels match and chrome lined in a variety of lengths, 6.8 barrels in match and chrome lined, a Ruger .204 barrel, and now the piston barrel coming out, it is a very modular platform. If you are going to be switching barrels, *use the torque wrench* or your screws may work loose. The machining of the rails and finish on them is incredible. They are expensive, but they perform and are also unique. I dont suggest them for someone who is buying their first AR, but if you have one or two already, MRP is a great way to get into something else which offers more possibilities. |
| Any experience w/ the .204 barrel? I was thinking of this as the first swap out. TX for the advice on the torque wrench requirement. I wouldn't expect the system to work w/ out the proper torque. I was actually concerned the bitches about th esystem would be from guys who didn't properly install the QD. Then blame the manufacturer. |

We take the torque wrench with us in the event the barrel gets loose. It hasn't happened very often, but it has. A previously properly torqued barrel with a few hundred rounds fired can have a looser bolt next time it hits the range. Something like a throw lever would be wonderful, we use blue loctite on scope mounts screws because they can get loose, I'm not sure if we should apply a little blue loctite on the MRP's bolt too |

I wonder if the blue would even hold up if you did put it on. Thats a pretty hot area of the gun. No experience with the .204 barrel. I dont have much interest in the round as I am not a varmint hunter. But I can see how its availability on the MRP would be interesting to people who do. |
