I have been thinking about geting either an AK or an AR and had some questions.  I went to my local store and they had nice AKs for $400.  They had three different ARs.  They had a Double Star with adjustable stock and no sights for $730.  They had a used Armalite with a fixed stock for $750 and Bushmasters with adjustable stocks for $900.  Are these prices in the ballpark?  What are your thoughts on these companies?  Should I save my money and get the AK?  Let me here your comments please.  This newby needs some help.  Thanks.

I'd definitely go with the Armalite. Its not a bad price on the Bushy either.

Eewwww!!!

J/K, I have an AK, one AK, just for comparison. Get an AR, you'll be happier.

+1 armalite for me too. To me an AR looks way better than an AK.

I agree.  The AR just looks good to me.  By the way, I love GoW.  Currently playing way too much COD4.

If you care about accuracy or ergonomics the AK is not the weapon for you.

$750 is a good price for an Amalite they are good rifles to boot.

Get both all four... J/K

Handle all of the AR's and see which one feels best.  They probably have different barrel contours, which will affect the balance greatly.  Also take chrome lining, rate of twist (1 in 9 with all?), barrel length, and receiver type (A1, A2, A3...) into account.

These rifles are not inexpensive. Good ones are over $1,000 (new)

I have found it better to pay a bit more and get a quality product. In the long run, it is the more economical choice - whether we are talking rifles or anything else.
