| I have a fairly nicely outfitted Stag AR15 that I use excelusively for ground hogs at up 300+ yds. I've always liked the trajectory of the .243 and now find that I can drop a .243 WSSM upper on my rifle. A 55gr bullet in .243 WSSM leaves the barrel at 4060 fps and, when zeroed at 200 yds, only has 3.9" drop at 300 yds. I like that a lot! I'm just beginning to research this. Is it possible to swap the bolt and barrel, like the 6.8, or does it require a complete new upper? Who do you recommend for this? |

Oly is the only maker of these 243 wssms and you must buy a complete upper. I've been waiting for a month on mine. I am going to strip mine so I can use certain parts to build a 6BRX. Stay in touch and I'll let you know exactly what is different and if I can sell you the bolt and barrel, I will not need them. |
Just curious, what are you planning to use for a bolt for the BRX? From my understanding the Oly uses a much bigger bolt, barrel extension and the upper for the larger diameter barrel. |

oly is not the only maker of the WSSM uppers. DTECH also makes them. although.... he uses patrs from oly arms. but.... hes a good guy to talk with, he knows alot about what he does. he frequents this site as well. i just cant seem to remmember his website right now. also, if you really like the 243 wssm, there is another hot running six out ther also. http://www.6mmar.com/6mmAR_Turbo.html sorry, but its not a hot link. have to copy, paste. anyways, read the part where it throws a 105 grn bullet at 2700-2800 fps!!!!!! a 75 grn at 3100 fps.... just think what it would do to a 55 grn..... i believe that its a 6.5 grendel necked down to 6mm. but i could be wrong on this. if this is correct though, it would mean that the upper reciever is the same as the .223 size reciever. with the WSSM"S you have to use a larger upper reciever and a larger barrel extension. the bolt would also have more meat on it compared to the WSSM'S. not trying to talk you out of the WSSM, but just wanted to let you know what else was out there. good thing about the wssm, is factory loadings. hope this helps, brian hope this helps. |
I am waiting on the upper to see exactly what has been changed. I hope they didn't just ream the hole in a stock upper and carrier .050 larger. If thats all they did then I'll use one of my milled uppers because there's alot more meat in them. I already have a bolt that fits the Oly extension and is .473 for the BRX. I hear they did use a standard carrier which I find hard to believe, the stock ones are thin enough. |

Check this out and the link will give you some idea of a build cost and seems to make a nice rifle. david www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=369913#Post369913 |

Constructor, the WSSM bolt-face is going to be a bit LARGE for the BR head. The bolt, carrier, barrel extension and receiver are all specific. The WSSM bolt can be made with a smaller face to take the BR head, but that is not what you are going to get if you have ordered a .243 WSSM. I am in the process of building a 6 BR right now. I have not worked out a functional magazine yet, but my customer wants to shoot it single-shot anyway. I would love to be able to get a magazine that would function with the BR case. I've got a fair amount of people that would be interested in uppers if I could pull it off. |
