I love the AR. My brother has one and I enjoy shooting it. I want one but I would like to build it customized.

If I end up doing a .308 or .458 I just buy a complete upper/barrel system right?

They fit into matching lowers, right? A RRA upper with fit into a RRA lower?

I really like the the rail systems all the cool kids have, how do they work with the barrel I have? Fit over?

16" or 20" for hunting?

thanks!

They fit into matching lowers, right? A RRA upper with fit into a RRA lower? You will need a .308 lower for a .308 upper. They do not need to be matching manufacturers.  I am not sure if there is a conversion kit for the .458 or not.
I really like the the rail systems all the cool kids have, how do they work with the barrel I have? Fit over? If it is a Free float rail system (FF) you will need to remove the front sight base (FSB) to install it. I would reccomend a 2 pc. rail so you don't have to do the extra work. Look up Free floating to find the benefits.

16" or 20" for hunting? The only difference in barrel length is velocity. A 20" will have greater veloctiy than a 16". It really depends on what your hunting. if your going with a larger caliber gun I would go with the longer barrel.
thanks!
