I picked up a NIB Colt 6920 and I also have a Barrett upper receiver on the way. I would like to use the same lower receiver to fire both 5.56 and 6.8 SPC. My question is, can I simply swap uppers and magazines to change over from 5.56 to 6.8 or do I also need a new buffer? I would think the 6.8 has a different recoil than the 5.56 round and I don't want to damage anything on my brand new rifle. Is the factory Colt buffer going to work with Barrett's 6.8 SPC upper receiver? The Barrett kit only comes with the upper receiver and a new magazine.

Should be no need to change buffer. That being said, i like running 9mm buffers in my carbines anyway, and it would help with 6.8 recoil. But, you don't have too.

Cool, I'm amazed by the fact that I can put together a completely different rifle just by pulling two pins and swapping magazines. Just out of curiosity, why exactly do you prefer the 9mm buffer? I know it's a heavier buffer but I'm not exactly sure what that translates to as far as recoil goes.

your 6920 should have a heavy buffer,I have a barrett 468 upper on mine and I haven't had any problems at all,it was a concern of mine when I first tried it,I switch between upper's all the time, whenever I can get 6.8 ammo,I have only put about 200 rounds through the 468 upper,so only time will tell.

I believe you are correct, sir.

Unless that "H" stands for something else.

yes the H means it a heavy buffer, you will like the barrett 468 upper.the biggest problem for me is money or I would order more ammo at a time, you can never have enough money or ammo.

The reason i run 9mm buffers is to "smooth" out the rifle's operation (lightens recoil a little, slows function slightly. etc). Although barely noticeable, when you shoot 'em enough, you can feel it.

LOVE the RRA second type of 9mm buffer

Tell a huge difference between my SPARE M4 with H buffer

I like running 9mm buffers as well.  However, I doubt you will have any problems at all since the 6920 has an H buffer anyways.
