Do you have either right now?  If not I'd put together the M-4 with all the evil features now and then do the 20" next as time and money permit.

Would this be your first AR, and if not what do you have already?

m4,because I have a 20" a2 and my eyes don't work like they used to with iron sights.

How 'bout what I might do for my next one if/when I ever get the money again.  20" upper with collapsible stock.  Sort of the best of both worlds.  Or maybe an 18" barrel. Still light and compact, but with a bit more velocity and a longer sight radious if you use irons.

For general purpose, home defense and carbine classes an M4 type would be better.

For target shooting only the 20" A2 would be fine.

What other gun do you have since you said you're going to build a new AR with the spare lower that you already have?

If you're not sure, get a 16" middie.  Best of both worlds.

You have the retro covered with the A1,M4 covered with the 6920..Id go 20" 1/7 govt profile standard A2.Then a retro carbine to keep the A1 company
