I just recently purchased my first Ar-15 from a local gun shop which sold it to me as a "Panther Lite 16" It is a flat top rifle and I got it for right at $750. My question comes in when I look at DPMS's site and the Panther Lite-16 is not a flat top rifle and I at first thought well maybe the store had sold the handle to someone and I just got a flat top which is exactly what I wanted, but there is not supposed to be a removable handle on this model. It didnt come with any rear sights. It has a round forward assist and a collapsable stock. The stock is made different from any that I have ever seen in that the back of it is slightly curved so it fits your shoulder a lot better than the normal flat type. I love the gun and don't care what model it is but I am just curious since it doesnt appear as though I got exactly what I paid for. I have gone through each and everyone of the rifles that DPMS offers thinking maybe I could piece together which model I have but have been unsucessful. Anyhelp will be greatly appreciated. |
| Ummm....I dont know if I got the "lite" barrell on mine or not? On the DPMS site it says that the Lite 16 is one of two rifles that they don't offer upgrades on. So...by that I took it as this is the way it comes period, or am I off base. Anyways, tomorrow I guess I will write to DPMS and see exactly for sure. Jeff |

DPMS will (at least they used to & I assume they still will) also build rifles specifically to order that fall outside of their normal catalog/options lists. I have ordered off-menu items -- both uppers and a complete rifle -- in the past that you couldn't go onto their website and "build." BUT, I can't imagine why your local gunshop would have ordered (and waited) for such a beast unless it was a custom-order for a customer. Was it new or used when you bought it? ETA: Also, just FYI 'cause you appear to be new here, there is a DPMS Forum in the Industry Community if you don't get the answer you're looking for here. |
| No, it doesnt have a K in the serial number it however starts with a F. Thanks for the replies though especially straight from DPMS. I just felt stupid telling people I had bought this gun and when you go to the web site it doesnt show this gun. Thanks Again for all the help. Jeff |
