I have a BSA 3-9 scope mounted on my AR carry handle.  The scope has the rail adapter through the handle, and then the scope itself sits on that.  It hasn't given me any trouble, but I don't like how long it is and how far it sticks out over the handle.  I cannot afford the ACOG that everyone is going to tell me to buy.  I know they're not the greatest, but NCStar makes a shorter scope with the same power as mine.  It is illuminated and has a bullet drop compensator.  It also attaches directly to the rail without needing the rail mount.  They go for like 80 bucks.  IS it worth my time to get one, or just stick with the one I have.  I really don't shoot very often, and the BSA has maybe 500 rounds though it without losing zero.

CDNN has a great Hakko 4X scope for the carry handle with BDC. Made in Japan, about $70. They made the original Colt scopes.

I checked out the cheaper than dirt link.  It looks OK, but my current scope is a 3X9.  That one is only 6 power fixed.  This one is also at CTD, but people seem to rag on them here.

I have that 3X9 you're talking about on my A2.  Mine is great, holds zero, sits as low as possible in the carry handle and has reasonably clear glass.  I use my AR only recreationally, so I can't say how it would hold up for LE or "combat".  For what I paid for it, I would recommend this Nc star, others will probably try to convince you to pay for an optic what you paid for your rifle. Not me, however.
