The Entry Tactical seem to be a popular RRA AR15 model. Why? The Tactical CAR AR and Elite CAR A4 models look nice too. Is it just the lighter wieght Entry Tac barrel? I think I've narrowed my choice to these three models (chrome lined with the Dominator II mount). I'm also still considering the Colt LE6920 but RRA is looking pretty good right now.

Thanks,

Dennis

Id like to help you out because I have a rra entry tac. but I'm not sure what you are asking. Maybe if you rephrased your question...

Thanks. I guess I'm wondering why the Entry Tactical is such a common choice around here? The Tactical CAR A4 seems very similar except for the M4 type barrel. What makes the Entry Tactical so special?

I have an Entry Tac because I wanted an RRA 16" flat top.  I walked into my dealer and he had one on the shelf so I picked it up while I was there.  Of course I paid too much for it but I wanted it, it was there, I didn't have to wait.  I don't regret it.  It was my first and is still my favorite AR.

I know the Entry Tac is available with a chrome lined barrel but what about the chamber?

I can't speak for everyone on this, but I would say the reason it is so popular is several things:

1: Low cost
2: High quality
3: very simialar in appearance to the real M4's -(cool factor)

You are on the right track

The Entry Tactical has the R-4 barrel, with the cut outs. I sure someone will tell me if I am wrong but I think they are for mounting a bayonet. I ordered my Entry tactical with the light weight R4barrel.

The Tactical CAR has a barrel without the cut outs.

The Elite has the longer mid length hand guards.

As to why they are so popular. RRA has a great reputation for reliability, support and a lifetime warranty.

They are not the cheapest but a good value in a complete rifle. Once you get familiar with the platform you might want to build you own. Now that I know how easy they are to put together I would not hesitate to build my own but have no regrets spending the extra money for the Entry Tactical.

I ordered it with the Daniel Defense Quad rail as it was cheaper than adding it on later.

The R4 is a grenade launcher cut out not for bayonet

I've had my Entry Tactical for a couple of months now.  I did a lot of research before buying and I come to the conclusion that it's all subjective thinking. RRA is a good company with a good rep. So is Stag (my two finalist) but I agree with what someone said earlier, this is a great rifle to start with. If you want to build your own like a lot of folks here suggest, the ET from RRA is a good 'toy' to model from or with. Just my opinion.

First time out, I only went through 150 rds. (it started raining) but I had a FTFeed and a FTFire. The rifle shot consistently low at 100 yards. But I'll chalk that up to being a new piece. Ammo used was PMC 55gr. which is fairly good quality. Hell it ought to be for .30 a round!

Good luck and I'll advise on my second trip out.

I have had mine for a couple weeks and taken it out twice, I feel the fit and finish is very good compared to a lot I had seen at local gun shops I have shot about 500rds through it and not one problem, I did the RIBZ and am getting good groups at 100yds with iron sights, for under $1000.00 shipped I fell like I got a good AR for a decent price.

I wanted something that was the best bang for my buck and looked similiar to the M4 rifle that is presently used in the military.  I found it in the RRA Entry Tac.  The lifetime warrenty also helped seal the deal for me.  The options you should also be looking at is a sighting system and a tactical sling.  On a RRA, a chrome lined barrel and a two stage trigger is *usually* the norm so make sure the one you get has them.  I've seen some RRA rifles on Gunbroker that didn't have these options to make them more price appealling.

I have never understood the cutouts!!!!  Being and engineer I see them as stress risers on the barrel....a chage in contour means a change in stress due to the change in diamater...so unless you are mounting a bayonet, which I do not understand either...I would want a plain smooth countour barrel....

And do not reply a reduction in weight, if you calculate the weight savings, you have more weight in your pocket change than the steel removed by the cut outs...

Sorry for any mispellings, I do not have my glasses on...

I concur. The cutout bothers me a lttle as well; however I don't think it is any cause for great concern. I don't plan on mounting a grenade launcher so  may just opt for the Tactical CAR A4 model instead. I don't think there's much difference apart from the M4 barrel profile on the Entry.

I have the tactical car4, i was looking at those three as well and my choice was mainly based on it being the right price at the right time. I could care less about the m4 cuts, but that barrel is a  little lighter as the car4 and elite(I think) have HBAR.

After much research on this site, I bought the entry tactical for the price, flat-top, and 16" barrel. I am very satisfied. I paid 1150.00.  I could've built one for cheaper, but I didn't know any better. Any friends with AR-15 aspirations I tell them to build, but I never regret my purchase.

well, RRA is a brand that offers quality at one of the lowest prices (from an AR manf)

combine that to the style (m4 like) of the entry tac, and the demand for that, and you have yourself a good seller

the colt, while more costly,, is sought my many and considered by most to be of more proper quality and worth its price

I got mine off the shelf at a local gun shop for about 980 out the door. Its been a great rifle. The lifetime warranty and customer service are great. I've had it for a year, out over a thousand rounds down range and no hiccups so far. I think its a good first rifle because it comes with a lot of nice things right out of the box. Trigger, hogue grip, and flat top are all really nice. I have thoroughly enjoyed mine.

I've done about the same research as you.
My selection ended up being the RRA Elite CAR A4.  I too am going with the Dominator mount, chrome bore and adding the ambi-selector (I shoot left handed).  I chose the Elite over the entry because I wanted the mid-length.  Wanting mid-length also helped narrow down manufactures.

I bought the Entry tactical as my first AR. It was mostly a impulse purchase, but I don't regret it for a second. It is accurate and reliable and that is all I can ask! It only failed on Olympic ammo that was blowing primers. Once I got rid of that crap, it has been 100% reliable. I have the free floated barrel and tactical carry handle that will be wearing an Aimpoint some day. Its a great rifle for the price.
