I just received a preban upper today from the EE and noticed the markings on the bbl as fallows: SS 5.56 Probably a stupid question, but does the SS stand for Stainless steel.....as in not chrome lined? |
Both my Oly barrels are stamped just like that immediately to the front of the FSB. Who knows though. Maybe another barrel maker uses the same stamp, but I've not seen it marked that way on my other brands. |
This is an 11.5" with perm. 5.5" FH and is also stamped directly in front of the FSB. There are no other markings on the upper. |
Az... I dunno bud. Can you share a pic of the barrel in question? None of my other barrel brands, complete or barrels purchased separately other than my Oly is marked like that. Rarely does the forge markings on the upper receiver mean much, but do have pics of that too or do you know who finished it? How'd the seller describe the item to you? Keep us posted. |
I received it in the mail today and handed it off to my customer who was waiting for it to arrive, so I dont have pics right now. The seller who I purchased it from on the EE described it as 11.5" w/ 5.5" perm. FH A2 complete upper assembly with no visible markings. I have to say though, it was a beuatiful upper! I was quite surprised at how cleen it was.(other than alittle grime in the chamber area. One thing I noticed, it fit REAL tight on the thee lower recievers I had near me (AMEETEC, Bushmaster, and DPMS) alittle too tight for my liking, but nothing a punch couldnt fix. Also the FSB didnt look forged like the rest of my rifles. It look machined? and had a rounded needle instead of a square one, which I've seen before but it might be of usfull info. in this case. I can try and get a pic this weekend. I'm going to go shoot it with the new owner on Sunday. Thanks for the help, and I try to get those pics up this weekend. |
Az...I'm gonna conur with regulator. My Oly FSB's are cast but have held up quite well. I also received them with the round 5 pronged A1 FSP's. At least I'm assuming that's what you were talking about from your description baout the . My Oly upper receivers also did not have any forge markings like the rest of my AR's. All these things seem to indicate that is an Oly upper that you received since that's what I'm seeing on my Oly's. Not that that's a bad thing, since the two I have have served me just fine. Those SS barrels they came with are the most accurate I've ever shot. I'm not a match or rest shooter but I've got nothing but consistent groupings on the move or while stationary. You're experience may vary, but I wouldn't worry about it until you get it to the range see how she performs. I hope all goes well & keep us posted. |
