I currently have a RRA H-BAR middy, and it's a heavy bastage. I would like to lighten it up a bit.

AR15 Barrels has an "H-BAR redux" package for 120 beans that will re-profile and shorten the barrel. The price is right, and I have heard nothing but good about them.

I have considered buying another upper (CMMG lightweight middy), but I have another lower waiting on an SBR upper. Funds need to be delegated wisely to keep the CFO of the house happy.

My current barrel has about 8k through it (far short of being "shot out"), but should I pony up for a new barrel, or spend the cash to have this one re-worked?

Personally, I'd do another barrel and either save that one for a future build, or sell it on the EE.

Best wishes,

Danny

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward the EE route and replacing the entire upper. I'm not sure I'll get enough to "break even" though.

You probably won't break even. The question is will you lose more or less then it cost to get it reworked? Also if you going to do an SBR that rifle will definately weigh less. If you have limited funds get the SBR done then rework the heavy middy.

Just my $.02

If I sell my current upper, and the offset cost of getting a new one is $120 +/- then I think it would be worth it. I'd wind up with a new upper and new barrel.

I think I'm answering my own question.....
