My A1 Stock (colt) will not fit on my lower (stag).
The tube (taken off a colt a2) fits the stock fine.
It also fits the lower fine.
The stock (when detached from the tube) fits flush against the lower.
When attached to the tube, the nub on the stock will not fit in the recessed area on the lower.

That is what seems to be the problem to me.
How to fix it

I'd grind a little on the nub (on the A1 stock) if it needs it (assuming a force fit won't work).

Double check to make sure there is no A2 spacer in the stock (you never know).

sounds like you have an a1 <shorter stock> with an A2 tube.

the a2 stock is longer and i don't recall if there is a difference in the a1 and a2 tubes.

There is no such thing as an A2 receiver extension.  Both A1 & A2 stocks use the same extension.  A2 stocks however have a small spacer that sits between the receiver extension and the stock.

Check and see if the spacer is still in the stock.

Assuming that it is an A1 stock there should not be a spacer at all.  If there was a spacer with the A2 stock don't use it.

Another important thing to keep in mind if you are switching to an A1 from an A2 is that the A2 uses a longer screw to retain the stock to the extension tube.  Don't use the long screw because your buffer will bottom out on it before going all the way to the rear.

I did a picture thread last winter comparing A1 and A2 fixed stocks and their parts. But I believe it's in the archives now.

However FalArAK featured it in his larger thread here, about 15 posts down.

I haven't had any problems with the 4 or 5 Stag receivers I've used, so I would say the spacer is stuck in the stock. Or is it the nub on the stock is too large for it's hole in the receiver? If so just trim the nub until it fits.

A little work with a file did the trick.
Thanks Forest.
