What is the cheapest route for getting a 16" dissy upper?
7/22/2007 1:34:49 AM EDT
[#1]
I got a model 1 upper for a build I did. I have had no problems with it...not to Hijack, but does anyone know of a good forward rail that works with the triangular handguard piece???

Edit to add...

I really have been happy with my purchase...but...

A member or two has had problems with Model 1...I have not...I'm sure a few more members will chime in in the morning...I'll give you a bump for the morning crew...

I'm still riding on red bull and vodka from earlier tonight!!!

That would be correct
The Bushy Dissy is a 16" HBAR

I bought mine used on EE and had to remove a taper-pinned full size Y-comp before the rest of the shooters at the range lynched me.  That friggin brake is a terror!

I personally like the dissy.
The benefits of a short legal barrel combined with full length sight radius.

Tagging.

I picked up a Bushmaster 20" HBAR A2 upper on the EE with plans to make it a dissy.  Now it seems cutting it down might not be the best choice due to the rifle length gas system.

No U can get a light contour M4 barrel too. I have one myself.

CMMG offers dissipator uppers with several barrel weights, and a choice of carbine, middy or rifle gas systems.

I have a dissipator kit from model 1 and it works great.

I have to drag this pic out once a year or so to remember what it was like.

actually I prefer it to the carbine gas dissapator.

open the port a little and it'll run with RORG, Wolf, among others.

not to mention, you've eliminated a gas block so you've saved weight.

Bushmaster offers the Dissy in 3 Flavors (from heaviest to lightest).

HBAR

Fluted HBAR

M4 Profile.

I'm with FMJ, go with a Bushy M4 type Dissy.  The only other one I'd consider would be a 20" A2 that had been cut down to 16.5" and the gas port opened up to 0.110".

It works, but my experience is that each is finicky and unique to itself.  I've done a half dozen and all acted just a bit different.  My present project won't run with an M16 carrier and an H buffer.  I had one that would, though.  The one I have now runs everything near flawlessly with a Colt half moon carrier and standard buffer though.

So one with a mid-length gas system will do fine?

Edit:  The whole point of me wanting a dissy is to keep it KISS.  Nothing except irons and maybe a sling.

well last time I had mine apart I wanted some pictured documentation for reference

this one shows it nekkid also

this is Bushmasters factory chopped gas block

on the upper, my home made barrel wrench

a bit closer

this is the gas port location.I forgot if it is from the end or the end of the threading,
so it is 8.5 or 9 inches. but it is a 9 inch carbine gas system duh

threaded after, this is a postban barrel corrected.(ADCO)

the ramps were not polished but they are now, they are mirrored in finish but I can't
tell by the picture.

and this is how it was.I put it back original with the rifle length handguard.removed the rail, it is now on another.

some people think the HBAR is too heavy.this one works for me.
did I mention this is a Bushmaster? purchased 7/99.

hope this helps with your questions.

if you think the home made barrel wrench is different you should see the
upper block (Like DPMS claw) and the bore guide I made.
I'm not cheap, I like to fabricate.

It may be that one.  One I had ran fine with a M16 carrier and a 9mm buffer.  That's a ton of moving mass.
