I am considering the purchase of an M4 type carbine from Spikes Tactical.  Does anyone have any experience with their rifles?  Anything to look out for?

Just look out for an outstanding dealer and excellent customer service.  I've built on three of spikes receivers and everything has always been top notch.

Will treat you very well. Have a lower and a dedicated .22 upper from them - no problems and great to deal with.

Whose parts does he use/buy to build his rifles?

Spiderman6969,
As long as you buy the lower from them Mike and his crew will install/do work free of charge at the show. Buy a stock, he will remove old and put new one on,free. Buy a stripped lower they will put a LPK in...free. Call him and ask, it never hurts to ask. You can pre arrange with Spikes Tactical as well.
Hope this helps some.

I own several of their lowers, they are all great. Last time I checked Lowers by LAR, LPK by DPMS, Uppers by STAG.

LPK?

Lower....Parts....Kit!

Nothing wrong with DPMS LPKs. I have one of Spike's lowers with a DPMS LPK. 9K and going strong. Why the hate for DPMS LPKs? I can understand their uppers and lowers but the LPKs are good to go.

Mike has alternated between DPMS and CMT/Stag LPKs.  I have one of the CMT LPKs in one of my Lowers and a DPMS in the other.   I ask each time I see him at the Show in Jax.  They have been DPMS the last several times.

FWIW both kits fit fine, but I gotta say that the detents in teh CMT kit with both ends tapered were easier to install.  Also the hammer and trigger had the sear surfaces lightly polished so all of the parkerizing was removed which made the trigger les gritty right out of the package.

The only nice thing about the DPMS kits that I noticed is the hammer shape, that makes them work better with 9mm uppers.

ETA: I have been very happy with the stuff I have gotten from Spike's.  They should be in Jax at the gunshow today.
