Should the charging handle be fairly hard to pull back or do you think i have a stiff buffertube?

How do you define "hard"? Does the Bolt get halfway back and become hard or does the bolt not even budge from the chamber? Could be a few different things.

Is it just as difficult with the hammer cocked?

when you field strip your rifle, is the bolt carrier still hard to remove?
--if so, then it could be that the locking lugs are dirty, the bolt carrier is dirty(cam, cam pin, outside surface of the bolt carrier or a combination), incorrect headspace...
dirty doesn't necessarily mean dirt.  could be thick lubrication, cosmoline, etc.

--if not, it's probably the buffer spring, buffer tube, hammer spring, or a combination of them.
push down on the hammer, is it exceptionally hard?
remove the buffer spring.  Is it hard to remove?  is the spring the hard part to remove, or is  the spring follower?

is it hard to remove only while the bolt is unlocking, or the entire way?

Ah-ha, that is why I ask. Because from what I’ve been reading here, DPMS for some reason has charging handles that are of a slightly different dimension.

Break open the rifle, remove the carrier and bolt, then try sliding the charging handle into the receiver by it self. It could simply be that the rifle is new, anodizing can be very rough and dry on a new rifle.. Ensure you have a light coat of CLP on the charging for your break-in period. If the charging handle continues to give you problems call DPMS.
