I am tired of the loud bark on my A2 and M4 2003 vintage rifles and I am told that the things can be unscrewed and replaced.I want to put  Levang Linear ones on both and that thread size is listed as 1/2"x28tpi and others have said in posts Armalites are 5/8"x24tpi.These are after the ban expired guns with bayonet mounts.Does anyone know? If they are that size is it as simple as running a tap/die over the 5/8x24 threaded muzzle with the smaller size required to install the Levang? Any advice or help appreciated as I am not a machinist

AR15  1/2 x 28= 223

AR10 5/8 x24  =308

+1

AFAIK, Norinco and Oberland are the only manufacturer that use different thread size

Thank You TaylorWSO: Looks like you have answered my question of size.I was referencing a .308 caliber in my post instead of the .223 found in my research attempts so now I can order my Levangs.I think they come with the washers also and are listed as a right hand thread,Again thanks

since those are post ban(during the ban, actually), it is likely both have pinned muzzle brakes

Thanks all for the input.I just looked at my boxes they came in and they are made in November and December of 2005 and not 2003 as I previously thought and are those dates of manufacture pinned? I guess I will find out time the Levangs show up in the mail but if so the trouble others had removing the factory ones I will give both to a tool and die gunsmith to do the swap.
