So i would like to put a rail on my stock handguard for light mounting and mabe a pistol grip. I would much like a floated handguard with rails, but money will not allow a nice one right now. Do you guys have any excperiance with this. I realise they are not as good as the before mentioned floater guard, but $20 bucks verses $120-$400
sounds good till more money shows up. Will these rail inserts break the guard or rip it with a pistol grip installed? Thanks for the help and yes I do plan on getting something better for Christmas along with some nice optics

I might do the same!  I'd like to see a pic of a carbine (16" barrel) with a bottom rail mounted to the original grips.  I would like to add a vertical fore grip.

I've got one of the 2 inch rails that I drilled holes at the 10 o'clock position on a rifle length handguard to mount a light.  The mount itself has an alluminum piece that goes on the inside of the handguard and is attached by two screws.  From the pressure I had to put on the handguards to drill through them, I'm not worried about it popping off or coming loose.

I also have a full length rail on the bottom handguard of an M4 carbine top end.  It's really well mounted and seems extremely secure, I've put a fore grip onto it to see how it works but haven't had it through any shoot-em-up/beat-em-ups with it yet.  It does seem very secure and once again I'm not worried about it coming off.  It's all alluminum, the outside and the inside mount.

ON the other hand, I got a 3 inch rail segment in a package deal when I bought a rifle, and the rail was plastic, not alluminum, and the set screws tore through it and now it's a piece of garbage.

If you get one, just make sure the rail is durable enough to handle the increased pressure of the torque from grabbing the VFG during use, I wouldn't worry about the handguard itself, those things don't have a tendency to break or come loose in my experience.

The rail is going to be your weakest link.

ETA, I'll see what I can do about getting pics up later if I get the chance

OKay, got some pics, I took off the handguard to show the mounts underneath on both of them.

The light mount has an extra hole underneath it, because of the larger 3" rail that I tried to mount that the screws ripped out of...
