What is the point in a M200 cartridge? Does it hurt an AR to dry fire it? |
|
Right, don't dry fire with the upper off. But with the upper, bolt carrier and firing pin in place, it won't hurt a thing on an AR. The fear of dry firing goes back to many double barrel shotguns in particular, and some other firearms. With these the firing pin may stick with the tip protruded. Then when shells are dropped into the chambers, and the breech suddenly closed the shells could go off before the barrel is locked. A nasty problem. The AR design is quite different and dry firing is not a problem. |

I got a dry fire device since I was a little paranoid. Its a piece of delrin plastic that goes into the bolt carrier. When you are dry firing all you have to do is pull the charging handle back a 1/4" and then you can fire again. www.creedmoorsports.com/store/product.php?productid=16322&cat=282&bestseller |

Once or twice won't hurt anything...doing it repeatedly is a different story. I've been careless in the past and have done the same thing a few times over the years. No harm done. |
