I'd guess most cable locks would work just fine.  They're defeatable, but they'll keep the kiddies from bangin' away.

I just stick mine in a safe.

Don't waste your money on such nonsense.  Spend it on something better like another AR15.

You can run a cable lock through the magazine well and out the ejection port.  If it's long enough, you can lock it to something stationary, like you would with a bicycle.  I have managed to get a regular clamping trigger lock onto my AR as well.  I have too many rifles to fit in my current safe, so when I am worried about such things, I take the bolts and lock them up.  The most valuable items go in the safe, as well as the critical parts of the other stuff.

I still have my Marine Corps Issue cable lock in a seabag somewhere. They issue them in boot camp. It's just a plastic coated steel cable with eyelets on either end for a padlock. Mine of course has numerous "Bolt teeth" marks chewed into it. Get in a hurry and bump the bolt release when you are being yelled at, and have fun getting the cable out of the bolt.

Sorry, just a nostalgic moment.

Cable locks are tamper resistant, but a small set of bolt cutters will defeat most. Yes they are good to keep the rugrats from messing with your rifle, but it has to be stored with the bolt locked back. This opens up the possibility of a kiddie dropping the bolt on their fingers. This would be a surefire trip to the emergency room. Of course, let me do it once and I bet they won't do it again.

If you aren't running optics, I would suggest looking into something like the Mogul "Life Jacket" It has the additional feature of being able to be mounted to a wall or other solid object. I am thinking about one to vehicle mount a shotgun.

What exactly are you using the gun lock for? They're a terrible false sense of security in most applications, including protecting overly curious children from a gun, or preventing theft. There are a few appropriate uses, but in general I'd say invest that $0.99, along with about a thousand or two more, in a safe.
