i am reloading and i do not like chasing brass alot...
my AR sends it about 10+' to the right rear and then it is pretty scattered.
i am not really fond of the brass catcher bags they looks like colostomy bags hanging on your AR (no offense to anyone that uses them)

has anyone had any experience with using a brass deflector?
do they pile up the brass up neatly at your feet like i have read?

i dont want to invest $25 on a bent piece of steel that doesnt really work... and any good leads on decent prices on these items.
i shoot an eotech on a flat top

thanks for you time ....

The best thing I have found is one of the brass catcher bags with the zipper left open.

Fortunately my chief concern isn't wether or not I'm looking cool...

Please be more specific about whom you wish to offend:  (1)  Users of brass catcher bags, or (2) Colostomy patients.

Lay a big tarp down on the ground for your brass.
When you're done, pick up the tarp at the corners so the brass will slide to the middle.

Either shoot rollover prone or hire a midget to stand on a chair and hold a towel up to catch and drop the brass right by you.

Here's a similar thread and my comments:

www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=327357

Also here's some instructions I e-mailed to one of the guys there in the thread above:

Potty Training your AR15 rifle:

First from a standing, sitting and prone position you should shoot your rifle enough times in each position to establish where your rifle is ejecting your brass (10 rounds in each should be enough).

Mark where you are standing, sitting and prone AND where the brass landed in each position. This is tedious but necessary as you will want to test your work later and have to have a frame of reference on your particular rifle’s ejection pattern (no two are the same it seems) and what changes you have made and it's effect on your rifle’s ejection.

After you have done this preliminary work you can proceed to the modification of your ejector spring.

Making certain your rifle is unloaded, remove the bolt carrier group from your rifle and remove the bolt from the carrier.

IF you have followed my advice, you already have a spare ejector spring for your current bolt (note: I have one spare parts kit for every AR15 rifle I own, YMMV but these spares are something which IF the SHTF you’ll probably find hard to get - so it’s best to have replacement parts as well as spare spring and pin kits for your firearms not matter the type, pistol or rifle).

Carefully start by clipping 2 rounds off the spare ejector spring. This should be done carefully with a pair of jewelers snips or similar so that the cut is made clean, leaving no burrs and without bending the spring in order to clip the 2 rounds off, (note: you can sand it down smooth w/ sandpaper and should make certain the cut is smooth and clean prior to using it your bolt. You don’t want to create a problem with ejector spring function here simply reduce the tension on the ejector).
Using a vise, a shop towel/red rag wrapped around the back of the bolt (near gas rings) carefully place the bolt w/ face facing up in the vise and tighten it enough to hold it, but not enough to crush anything.

Have your wife or friend take an ejected hull and place it in the bolt face, under the extractor so that pressure on the brass depresses the ejector, just as if it was in the rifle and holding an actual round.

With your helper holding tension downward on the ejector and using a small 1/16” (IIRC) punch carefully push/tap the ejector retaining pin out of the bolt (preferably from the top of the bolt toward the bottom) being sure NOT to push it all the way out. The purpose here is to release the ejector and the spring WITHOUT COMPLETELY removing the ejector retaining pin which is not necessary, (making reassembly far easier and precluding the wrecking of the ejector retaining pin by having to re-start it in that tiny hole - now you know why spare pin kits are handy to have around but you hopefully won’t need one here). You can test how far you need to drive the retaining pin by releasing pressure on the brass holding the ejector down, go just enough to release the ejector and spring, no further is needed. Go slow and be careful, remember we are dealing with parts under tension here.

Once the retaining pin is pushed far enough, releasing pressure SLOWLY on the expended hull should allow you to remove the ejector and spring........,be careful to not let the ejector or spring shoot off into the nether regions.

Simply replace the original spring with the one you have clipped 2 rounds off and re-assemble the ejector and spring into the bolt, having your helper re-insert the expended hull your using to compress the ejector spring with and then carefully tap the ejector retaining pin back in - this time from the bottom to the top.

Re-assemble the bolt into the carrier and then into the upper, then pick your standing, setting or prone position and shoot the rifle again - noting the changes in the ejected brass location.

Some rifles may require more rounds be clipped off, however NEVER clip more than one at a time after you have taken 2 off to start with.... (two rounds off worked fine for my rifle, but three is not uncommon so I’ve heard)

Go slow and refer to the parts pictures and reference material under the Information button on AR15.com if you need to and you should be able to make this mod without a hitch, but do get your spare parts first should something go oops.

Hope this helps and if ya need anything else just gimme a holler.

I bought mine from Bushmaster. The one for the A3 detachable handle. Works like a charm. If I stand with a table to my right and my range bag on the table, open, I can just about bag every shell just by standing still and squeezing the trigger.
