Does anyone know the specific difference between the Colt 633 DOE variations; including both the firearms and parts-kits. For example, I know there is no sling-swivel on the parts kits and I have been told the parts-kits were rejects? I have also noticed the early models have the glossy-handguards while the later models have the matte handguards. If anyone can please expand upon the specifics it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

What parts kits?

Don't have a 633 but I do have a set of brand new handguards which are matte.  It is possible that they would become shinier with heavy use but I don't know.

The Colt 633 was sold without the lower-receiver, telestocks, etc as replacement parts kits. JT Distributing sold parts kits awhile back. The question I have is whether these replacement parts kits were left over from the DOE contract and never assembled into firearms (ie were rejects or extra parts) and what are the differences in the variations produced. For example, I know the Colt 633HB had a hydraulic buffer, but I don't know when it was produced and if there were any other differences with the 633HB. Similarily, whether the replacement parts kits came from the 633 or the 633HB. The handguards on the early variants are definitely different (glossy vs matte) and didn't come from use/wear. The early glossy handguards fit the era when M16 handguards didn't come with a matte finish. I guess the question is when they were produced and what if any are the other differences.
