Does the Military use caps

I hope so!!!!  Up until 2000, when I got out, we did.

I'd hate to think we're equipping entire foreign armies, but stopped issuing these 50-cent livesavers.

We got them in my old unit. Here at my new unit nobody has them (except the extra one I got from my last command).

Just about everyone in Iraq (when I was there last) that I saw had one though.

The caps were discouraged in my units 84-87. The arms room sgt said that it trapped moisture in the bore and caused corrosion.

I used the cap in the field all the time

Never even saw a cap when I was active duty, '82-'85. But, that was in the days of military budget cuts. I never saw a bayonet or a second canteen that was issued either.

Believe it or not......I have a cartoon to reflect that, but I'm away from my personal computer at this time.

Still in use, definitely in Iraq. The first round just pops it off.

In a pinch you can tape it off as well.

The GI version is from Caplugs-just like the Canon plug and RF cable covers we all know and love.

Im going to shoot one off since I got a few ( see if it changes  POI )

Those caps are very hard to come off?

I would have thought it would Take more than 1 round to blow off the cap

I use a rolled up foam earplug (that way when I shoot it off I dont look like such a fuckhead)  -- plus if your muzzle is rubbing against things it does not wear like the plastic cap -- plus you can put your can on, which won;t work with the plastic cap.

They are firm when in place, but one shot and it will be history!  That's why I DO NOT get the black caps anymore; you forget they're there and BANG! they're gone.  I didn't notice any significant POI change when I've done this.

I shot one off in Iraq.  It left a good welt on my cheek.  It scared the crap out of me, too.  Took me a few seconds to figure out what it was.

They are an important accessory in a place like the sandbox.

I used to use black muzzle caps on my former pre ban ARs but only when I go out shooting, never used them in storage because I heard of the corrosion problem they could cause.

I remember launching one a long time ago when I was using the black muzzle caps, I was in a hurry to shoot at the shooting range and when I got back home I was missing one cap.

Now I have both black and red colors but usually just use the red caps when I go shooting.
