I recently moved from Kalifornia to North Carolina. Now that I am no longer under the control of the Kaliban I am ready to get an AR15. I sold my Kel Tec so I am rifleless. Anyways I am trying to get the biggest bang for my buck so to speak. I want either a flat top or a removeable handle , Adjustable Stock , Chrome Barrel. Prefer to set it up with a flip top sight that can work with a Red Dot installed. I am looking at a nice Rock River Arms on gunbroker with a match trigger for $917 but I am not sure what a Chrome Moly barrel is. Any suggestions are appreciated. BTW I have looked at some local shops and the prices are horrible hence the reason I am looking online. Preston North Carolina |

First of all... congrats on your escape from the Occupied Territories. I live in So. FL and dealers down here are just as insane with pricing. Keep an eye out on Gunbroker.com and Auctionarms.com. I recently picked up a brand-new in box Bushmaster 20" A4 (flattop) with chrome-lined barrel, plastic case, 1 mag, and sling (all standard Bushy equipment) for $850 delivered on AuctionArms. That's easily $200 less than local shops get and I saved the sales tax too. Bushmaster will fully support/warranty it if you buy it new from a dealer on-line. I called and asked. I'm sure RRA will too.. just call and ask. BTW, I'm not pushing Bushmaster over RRA, they're both equal in my eyes. RRA may have the better trigger group..... Gun shows are good too.... just beware of "frankenrifles" -- basically a name-brand lower with junky everything else built by Bubba The Meth Freak in his basement. I see these getting passed off as "all original whatevers" all the time at shows down here. Another option is to build your own. If you are mechanically inclined enough to assemble a bicycle, you can build your own AR. All info you need is on this site. You will also need about $75 worth of specialised tools -- AR armorer wrench and receiver vise block as well as some standard punches and a plastic mallet. Just make sure you use high-quality parts (unlike Bubba).... This can be a very fun and rewarding project and you will end up with the EXACT rifle you want. You will likely also save money even after getting the tools. There's an 11% excise tax built into the price of complete firearms built by a manufacturer that you will not have to pay building your own. And yes, its 100% legal as long as you stay semi-auto and don't use "evil assault-rifle" features which I don't think there are any in your state. |
