Just bought my first AR (bushmaster v-match w/ ss heavy barrel). I also bought a Nikon 5.5x16.5x44 to go on top. I am planning on buying an armalite 1 piece mount, but I started to question if I would have enough room for the scope to safely clear the barrel. Just need some professional advise.

I'm sure the Armalite is a quality mount, but, I wouldn't rule out the LaRue offering for just this application. The QD LT-104 should fit yourr application perfectly.  A quick email to their sales team would confirm.

+1 on the Larue Mount. I have a 56MM lens mounted on my flat-top AR with ZERO clearance issues.

Is your Nikon a 1" tube, or 30mm?

Burris makes "xtreme" mounts that are beafy, and they come in different heights to accomidate big front elements (the front element to my scope is 64mm, and the burris extra high work with room for flip-up front and rear BUIS)

Also, they are about 1/4 the price of Larue...

I have a Lupy with a 50mm bell on my AR10 and it clears with an Armalite mount.
