I'm wondering if there's a source for pre-1994 magazines and how they can be differentiated from new manufacture. TYIA |
My guess is if LE was that concerned with you, the mags would be the least of their concern. You don't state what empire you reside in. A good bet on the mags being preban is for them to not have any date markings on them after your empires ban went into effect, not to have "LE/Military" markings on them, and to be made by contractors known to have made mags before the ban. This is stamped on the floorplate. A bigger plus to differentiate your concern about preban status is to buy "new in wrapper" military contract magazines in sealed bags. These will typically have the month and year of manufacture printed on the plastic baggie. |
Sarco has been selling new condition "old stock" Colt marked 20rd magazines with the metal followers in old GI four magazine bags dated 1970. To me, they can be distinguished from new manufacture by the bags marked 1970, the metal followers (went to black plastic followers in '70s or '80s ?), and the markings on the magazine floorplates and body (the UI marking). But I sure don't know what is enough proof of preban mfg. in ban states. Sarco--908-647-3800--www.sarcoinc.com Original GI packet of four early Colt 20rd new GI mags for $54.50 plus shipping. Item # RPM255. Single mag for $19.95. I've bought some four packs and was happy with the mags. If getting the sealed pack of four mags with the pack dated 1970 was important, I'd make it clear on ordering that was desired, to try to make sure they did not send four mags not in the sealed bag. |

Forgive the stupid questions, but I'm in NY and new to the AR addiction. I was just trying to figure out how to get hold of some 20/30 rd mags that would be legal here. NY basically just extended the Clinton ban, so pre-94 mags are grandfathered. I see that alot of the mags are date marked. Is this a 100% accurate way to tell the manufacture date? |
