There should not be a problem re-using the roll pin. The best way to remove it is to back up the receiver on a piece of wood with a hole drilled in it to catch the pin. If the ear that holds the pin is not supported during removal it can snap off under the pressure from the hammer and roll pin punch. ETA: Illustration.
