Has anyone used these lowers? They are very inexpensive, but are they worth it?

They are very much worth it. I have a couple , and the builds went together very well. They are very dimensionally accurate, with all holes being spot on.The current receivers are forged. I also have a couple of guns built on the old cast EA lowers, pushing 20 years old they are holding up fine.

I have one on a post ban 20" A2, that I bought about a year and a half ago.  I have put maybe 500 rounds through it with no problems (Would have been more, but ammo went through the roof).  Fit to the upper is very tight  It seems to be very well made.  Mine is cast. But again, no problems.  I am satisfied and have no plans to part with it short of the whole cold dead fingers thing.

I read an small ad in a shotgun news a few issuies back on the essential arms stripped lowers, the price seemed right but IIRC they were cast lowers. If that is incorrect and they are forged they would be a good bargin.

I have been buying superior arms lowers from a sponser of this site, RBprecision. The price is right, service is second to none and it is a quality lower at a competetive price.

They make cast and forged. I have a cast one with 2000+ rounds and no problems.

I don't see the "cast" versions being offered
in their catalog, or website.

They may be discontinued

Great product, DPMS lower parts kit fit
fine, Del-ton upper snapped on nicely.
The Del-ton upper is a little darker in
color, but you have to be close to notice.

All the one being produced now are forged. They are a great product, especially for the money. I have a few.

Essential arms made preban cast receivers which were great and were marked J15 or whatever they used.  They recently started making receivers again after the ban and they are now all forged and marked J15A1 or A2???  Anyhow if it doesn't have an "A" whatever after the 15 it is forged.  They were and still are high quality receivers that FIT!

The cast receivers have been discontinued for a while. All EA lowers are forged now.

J-15 are the original Essential Arms cast receivers, pre-ban days.
J-15-2 are the recent Essential Arms cast receivers.
J-15-F are the new forged receivers.

Vaughn is making them forged now because of all the hoopla over cast.

Over the years I have owned several EA cast, and have worked on other AR's with EA cast lowers.  I have never seen a problem that was caused by the EA lower, nor have I seen or heard of one broken.  I know a number of LEO's with AR's built on EA cast lowers, and some departments with FA's built on EA cast lowers.  None have had any problems.

Any new EA lowers you buy now will be forged.  This is one of the last of the cast lowers:

Looking at this side, you'd never know it was cast:

The raised lettering of the logo and model is the easiest way to tell the cast from forged:

More detail shots:

And you can blame me for EA making OD receivers.  Vaughn saw mine and liked it.

I saw it in one of those small black and white adds that runs in the very front of SGN, IIRC its called Whats New or something like that, there are usually ten or so small adds in that section. It may be been a misprint or I may have read it wrong. Thats a hell of a good price for a forged lower then. I plan to buy three more stripped lowers, may see what price I can get the essential lowers for when I order.
