Why don't more manufacturers machine out their lowers with a trigger guard instead of adding it in as a component? Considering how horrible the factory TG are, why not machine them into the billet or cast them that way? The SOCOM and the new Magpul lowers are done this way. This would be much sturdier and have cleaner lines than having more holes and a roll pin. Everyone I know has replaced their factory TG with the extremely nice looking and feeling Magpul model. The cost of retooling the machining should be offset by having fewer machining operations. |

The trigger guard has s detent that can be depressed to allow the trigger guard to swivel down on the roll pin. This allows you to fire the weapon while wearing arctic mittens. Personally I would rather have an easily replaceable trigger guard than have to replace an entire lower if it got broken. |
| Have that "Nice looker" on all 4 AR's, and the new Magpul lower recievers have it machined from the billet. Not a separate part. And as for opening the trigger guard to shoot with mittens/gloves, the Magpul is open enough for this already, that was the whole point. Why don't others follow the leader. The Bushmaster TG is plastic for petes sake, CHEAPO. Just a small thing that would make a better rifle, IMO. |
Please show me a pic of your shooting the Magpul trigger guard with mittens on. It cant be done. Follow the leader? You mean Colt or FN? Can you show me the TDP for integral trigger guards? Can you show me which units are being issued these now? Honestly, outside of civilian sales there is no demand, need, or benefit to an integral trigger guard. Its one of the things I dislike about the DPMS AP4. |

I wouldn't try to get my finger on the trigger with arctic weight mittens, would probably discharge a round inadvertantly, too thick. How many other military rifles have an opening trigger guard, none I can think of. Tell the Russians to stop making AK's, they can't shoot them in the cold. A solution is search of a problem. Colt and FN haven't made any real improvements on the AR/M16 platform in years, the true innovators are the small companies producing advancements (LMT, Magpul, LaRue, etc). These companies improve on what the soldier needs, look at what the real operators are using. Colt & FN = lowest bidders with enough manufacturing capability |
It is not a problem at all, I just think it would make the system more robust, one less thing to break. And if you don't think they break, go to the "build it yourself" forum and do a search for threads asking how to fix the little metal ear that has broken off after being dropped or when installing a TG. |
The SIG 550 has a trigger guard that pivots. Switzerland = Mountains = Cold/Snow Thus why should the AR15 be without one when we are trained to fight in the Artic and have mountain terrain and Artic territory to defend in our own country. Having a pivoting trigger guard eliminates the need to field a winter trigger attachment. The only way to keep your fingers in the cold for extended peroids of time is with mittens. |
