Whats the difference between the Bushnell and the EO Tech optic system? A buddy of mine is traying to tell me that other than nearly $100, It's just the stamp on the body.

Nope:  Lemme give you a rather imperfect rundown.

EOThingy
-Steel (AFAIK) "rollbar" over the whole top of the unit.  It works.  Mine has taken a couple of unscheduled trips to floor level, on rifle and off, and landed directly on the top of the unit.  Not a scratch was put in it.  I doubt it would have fared nearly so well with just the plastic housing top exposed.
-Waterproof to 33ft on most models and I think 60 or so on the 553.  Great for underwater aquabumping  Then again, if you live somewhere which seems to be 2/3 water like LA or spend a lot of time on boats this doesn't seem silly at all.
-Night Vision capable on some models.  I use my 552 with a MUM and it works like a house on fire.  My advice is that if you even remotely suspect that you'll ever get into NV gear, spend the extra $40 and get a model that can work with it.
-I'm tempted to say that RevisionF (yellow sticker) EOTechs have longer batt life than the Bushnells but I'm not sure.

Bushnell
AFAIK, identical reticle, internals, and windage/elevation adjustment.
Overall, more or less the same body and unit without the ruggedizing (is that a word?)
Vendor websites are saying that the Holosight is waterproof.  I'm not sure to what degree but apparently there's some sort of protection.

Final analysis:
Fun at the range or hunting, save yourself a few bucks and go with the Bushnell.  The shooting experience itself will be unaffected (and it is very cool indeed!)

SHTF/HD rifle or any chance of serious use or need for NV compatability, get the EOTech.

I thought $400 or so was a bit much but I got one on faith and I abolutely love that little thing.

There are differences beside the "Roll Bar"

EoTech is waterproof and the electronics are more rugged.

They seal the electronics with epoxy which greatly aids durablity against water or shock.

To further explain, the printed circuit board is encased in potting compound, an epoxy like compound.

Yes, the buttons are different.

The "time out" on the EOTech saves battery life over the Bushnel.

With either brand be sure and buy a "AA" model rather than one that burns "N" batts!

But I really like my Bushnells........ got two of them but like others said ........ the EOTech (NV compatible and AA battery model)  ...........

.... IS THE WAY TO GO!! ........... for SHTF guns!

I love my Eotech on my Bushmaster M4A3 type carbine. It is especially handy for a clutz like myself while running an IPSC style course when I bump the sight against the barrier I'm shooting around.

Eotech actually makes the Bushnell model. It is a lower end model Bushnell just sells under their name. But it nowhere near as rugged (Re: Clutzitis).

Ragin_cajun spelled it out quite well. I have a Bushnell and love it. Spend the extra money on ammo.
