Hi! I've searched here and Google looking for an answer to this question with 0 results. I've read here that it's illegal to put an M-16 bolt and carrier in an AR-15. I know why this is but I don't what the differences between the two are. So, what ARE the differences between them? Thanks, Bob |

Colt builds ALL their rifles with the M16 carrier in them, as long as it can't be made to shoot more than one shot with one trigger pull it's fine. I still wouldn't have one in my house but if you buy the rifle new from the manufacturer with it in there who's at fault? |
Exactly. There's nothing illegal about having an M16 carrier by itself in a semi-automatic AR rifle. Several manufactures sell rifles this way, and plenty of people on ar15.com have M16 carriers in their semi rifles. |

Be aware that there is a letter floating around from BATFE that says exactly the opposite regarding use of the M16 carrier. Not too surprising considering the source. My opinion is, there is no way in hell that a M16 carrier could contribute to full auto fire unless there were something for it to "Trip" like the sear it was designed for, so you have no exposure to their concern about making a machine gun. I have several in various AR 15's. One is a Colt 6920, and it came from Colt that way. |
