I am looking into setting up a long range AR.
Target shooting only (maybe some praire dogging)
Ranges from 300 - 800 yards.
Would like to be able to shoot 1" groups at 300 yards, if possiable.
I have a DPMS lower with a JP trigger that is real nice so looking for an upper.
I mainly shoot black hills ammo.

Here is what I have been looking at:
Bushy        24 Inch bull barrel                         $????
RRA           24 Inch Varmint A4 Upper Half        $610
RRA           24 Inch Varmint EOP Upper Half      $630
DPMS         24 Inch super bull barrel                $705
Armalite     24 Inch Heavy barrel                      $600
White Oak  24 Inch Varmit                              $610
White Oak  26 Inch Match barrel                      $672

To shoot 300 yards plus what barrel length would most recommend?

Does anyone make a 24 -26 inch bull barrel that is chromed lined?
(To cut down on break in time and cleanings)
How much is accuracy affected from chromed line to stainless barrels?

Also I have yet to see a 24-26 inch bull barrel with a flash suppressor in it.
Would really like to have a phantom flash suppressor on a long barrel.

Recommendations, comments welcome.
Maybe I am asking too much. I know I can buy the uppers cheaper thru gunbroker or else where. Just trying to decide what to get.

Also I have seen a few Blackthorne barrels for sell on Gunbroker.com.
They are priced cheaper than most. Anyone know anything about them?
Been my past experience that most things that are price to cheap to be true are best left alone.

one inch groups at that range will be tough to accomplish.

I would look more at the ss bull barrels over the chrome lined.

most rifles will shoot better than the shooter, so practice, practice, practice. and probably get a two stage trigger with a super light break.

go the arms and tactics section under precision rifles and ask this question,  it may get more responses.

26" CM Douglas, 1/8 from Frank White, Compass Lake
Bushy Lower, SR 25 Trigger, extended mag release, RRA Shorty Entry Stock

Shoots up to 80 grainers nicely, sweet spot 69 to 77 SMK's and Varget/BLC(2)

Longer range needs heavier loads, get it throated for 80's if you're going to use them.

Have personally seen the AMU shoot their 20" match-prepped AR's with iron sights at 600 yards and end up with itty-bitty little ragged holes.

Oh Yeah, one of them just won Camp Perry a few years ago when I saw them so as usual, "It's not the arrows but the Indians".

Checkout Shilen and Lilja they are both top notch makers.

I have a couple of lilja and shilen barrels on various 10/22s.
Both also make ar-15 barrels but I have not had the chance to handle the ar barrel from either

Thanks for the replies back,
Also nice looking firearms.

Most of my rifles will out shoot what I can do, but I am working on it.
My ar-10 has 2 stage trigger with the 2nd stage set right at 1 pound trigger pull. I haven't checked what my ar15 is set at, it has a jp adjustable trigger group in it. It is set at what ever DPMS set it at when they installed it.

I live about 30 minutes out of CMMG so I may pay them a visit and see what they can put together for me also.

Will post pictures when ever I make my mind up on what upper I want to go with.

While the EOP gives eliminates a piece that can come loose, I went with the flat top and a GG&G rail.  That way I'm not stuck w/ the EOP upper.

20 or 24 should be fine, leaning to the 24

After breaking in my RRA upper I talked to RRA and found out that they do not recommend a break in because of their mfg process

I'm sure that others have done better, but my RRA is shooting .380 at 100yds w/federal 60gr. varmint loads.  I'm looking for better, so I'm not done yet. Good luck
