OK.

God has smiled on me -- stock options now turned the corner. After college funds and retirement input, my wife has given me amazing latitude on the slim but useful remains. She gets half for some house odds and ends, rest "is up to you". As I funded a GIANT Disney Christmas vacation, I am moving guiltlessly to fungunstuff.

First 10% aside for $$ to state Rifle Ass'n, NRA, and JPFO. Rest is going to many AR and non-AR items (I'm an AR/AK switch hitter as well as FN and various C&R fan -- sorry, guys).

Interestingly today, after a trip to the gun store to get new stripped receivers and some 5.45 for the Bulgy, I ran into a friend dumping a PRISTINE DPMS M4-gery. Brought it home for $650 NIB for one of the kids (really). Not the best price in the world, but a value I'm unlikely to get anytime soon, so I jumped, pretty much liquidating all but a few $$ in my kitty.

First: all you DPMS'rs: what do you think? I have a DPMS lower, but with a trigger job and custom upper as well as ACE stock, it really has little relation to the original mfgr. Is their M4 a decent piece?

Here's the cool part: I told my wife "well, I bought a new rifle for older daughter as she is off to State U in spring, and since she turns 18 in Feb, it should really go with her", to which she replies, "you're right; if you really want to shop for another one, let's talk about it!!!" YESSS!!

Moral is: it may NOT be necessary to hide big purchases from Mama -- be sure to talk about family first! (BTW, my baby girl can chew the 10-ring out of a 25-yard Visi-Shot target with a 10/22, so the M4 will be hell on BGs in her lovely hands.)
