One of my gas rings broke last weekend and it will be another week until new ones arrive (I ordered a couple spares too).  Will it hurt anything to fire my ar with only 2 rings until the new ones arrive?

Only your pride, but you might want to consult the experts found in troubleshooting forum ...

It will probably damage the two that are on there now. Just wait.

Maybe I am incorrect, but I would assume the worst that could happen is your rifle would not function properly, or you would damage the remaining two rings.

I have heard the arguement the gun will operate on only one ring, but I can't say that from experience.

Might shorten the life of the remaining 2.  I doubt you'll notice.  I say

You can actually run an AR with the gaps lined up or only one ring OH TEH NOES!!1!  Maybe not reliably but it will cycle to an extent.  Or just get McFarlands and forget it.

My quess is it will probably will not hurt your AR but you might have some function problems since you may not get a tight seal with only 2 rings

Wont effect anything I ran mine off of 2,and the gaps when the bolt goes in the carrier thats what gives the resistance is the rings squeezing together.Even if all 3 gaps line up it doesnt matter it will still run fine.Ive heard of 1 ring and still running but ive never experienced anything but 2 like yours. You will know if the rings are worn by putting in the bolt then holding the assembly up by the bolt...if the carrier drops off time to replace all the rings.Even with 2 as long as the carrier doesnt fall the seal is tight enough to function.
