Put in the mag, pulled back the charging handle, let it rip and it just flopped there…real loose. The bolt stayed back therefore not having and pressure on the handle. This only happened with one particular mag out of several, but it happened in two different rifles with that same mag. This would tell me it’s the mag, but I can’t figure out why it would be.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Rick

The part of the follower that pushes up on the bolt hold open lever is worn down or broken?
Misread. Prehaps the mag is pushing up on the hold open latch. Compare the back of the mag to a known good one.

Edit for typo. I can't type for sh*#.

I can't see the differance between a known good mag and the suspect one. One of the rifles was new out of the box and the other is known to be good...no problems.

I assume you mean a loaded mag, the bolt should stay back on an empty.

I am having trouble visualizing what is happening, but it sounds specific to that one mag. I would take that mag and closely compare it to a known good one. If its a mechanical issue, it should become fairly obvious after a few minutes of 'stare and compare'.

My guess is that the mag sits in the well in such a way that the geometry is off, so that the top of the follower doesnt engage the bolt to block it off. Why the buffer spring isnt just slamming the bolt carrier into battery is beyond me. Would need more info to figure that part out without seeing it.

If its definitely the mag, simple enough fix.....replace it.

Yes it was a loaded mag. The mag in question is a ten dollar cheapie. It's in it's new home in the trash can at the range.

Thanks guy's.
