| I am interested in a FF forend for accuracy improvements only, and not for the ability of rail attachments. The standard forend contacting both the barrel and receiver appears to be less than ideal for accuracy. I have seen improvements when I free floated my bolt actions. I am not seeking to make my AR a match rifle, but some improvement can surely be gained. Some of the FF forends I have researched are not true FF, as they attach at both ends. Has anyone seen accuracy gains with their AR's by merely installing a FF forend? |

Reason states that you will see improvement. How much is going to totally depend on your setup, ammo, and ability. There are quite a few inexpensive non-rail FF tubes out there. IMHO if I was going to do that I would just use a DCM tube and keep the "classic" look. |
Like which? |
I dont' think so. The unit bolts to the top of the receiver, and the bottom guard attaches to the top. I don't think they are captured by the front handguard cap or touch the barrel. If you don't want rails, You are going to have to remove the FSB. I can't think of any plain tubes that don't require it. If removing the FSB is not a problem, any of the plain tubes (PRI, YHM, or even the DCM) should work. There are some two piece FF tubes that don't require removing the FSB, but you'll get rails. |
| On some mfr and vendor sites it can be a bit misleading as to the forends being FF. I am interested a true FF, but only for the accuracy gains. I am aware that accuracy has many variables, of which one is a floated barrel. Establishing a bullet and load is my next step. I was just wondering if anyone has seen decent improvements with the install of a FF. As always, I appreciate the great support. |

Keeping the FSB is not a problem. It will rule out some of the float tubes that are made for rifle length barrels. Removal of the FSB would just be needed in order to install the tubes that ahve integrated barrel nuts as the tubes are not wide enough to allow the FSB to pass. The only way to get around that is to use a 2 piece. But those include the rails. |
